Our story

Nestled deep in the San Juan Mountains and considered the headwaters of the Rio Grande river, Creede offers some of the best fly fishing in Southern Colorado.

In the Summer of 2009, Kevin Leggitt, avid fly fisherman, coffee drinker, and owner of the Rio Grande Angler sectioned off a room in the building and launched Coffee on the Fly. Conceptualized as a part-time summer business to accommodate the fly fishermen in his store, or the locals needing coffee on the way to work, Coffee on the fly offered a place to grab your coffee “on the fly”.

In 2013, the business was leased to Melanie Freedle, who expanded on the original concept to include fresh baked pastries daily, an extensive menu of hand-crafted coffee drinks, as well as a retail shop offering merchandise such as whole bean, freshly roasted coffee by the bag, or your favorite Coffee on the Fly T-Shirt.

In the Fall of 2022, Coffee on the Fly changed hands & was purchased by Kambrie Dyer. Long time lover of Creede & coffee, & Coffee on the Fly, it was a perfect fit. Whether you grab your favorite coffee “on the fly” or mingle on the deck sipping and people watching; we are positive you will enjoy this quaint, local coffee shop as the best Creede has to offer.
